In this travel guide, I’ll share tips about:

  • Getting ready for your trip
  • Booking Ghibli museum tickets
  • Suggestions for managing itineraries/budget during your trip
  • General advice for traveling in Tokyo

Before your trip

  • Book flights and hotels as early as possible to minimize costs. Keep in mind that the hotel rooms can be very, very small. There’s not much room in some of the hotel rooms to keep your luggage open and accessible.
  • Get refills for the medication you need well in advance, and note the restricted drugs. Stimulants and opioids in general are not allowed in Japan.
  • Research what the climate/weather will be like during the time of year you go. Plan out your outfits! That way you can save luggage space for all the goodies.
  • Look up what items are restricted in Japan, or you might have issues with customs. Make sure liquids in your carry-on are 3oz or less.
  • Decide if you want an eSIM or a portable WiFi. I used Ninja WiFi and pickup/dropoff was very convenient. There are pros and cons to using either: make sure you research those, too. My boyfriend tried roaming with his phone, but…
