“Savvy, disruptive, and fearless”
A reflection on my grad school education thus far and professional development
So what, exactly, have I been getting myself into lately?
As most people know, the months/years following undergrad graduation were tough. I didn’t know what career path I wanted to take, and I was working retail while trying to figure that out. I applied to everything across the board, short of a warehouse worker for Amazon (because I’ve heard the horror stories there many a time).
I reflected on my time in undergrad, along with my work experience.
Most public policy majors seemed to go on three paths:
- Consulting
- Working somewhere in DC
- Going to law school
None of those options seemed appealing to me, so I went off the beaten path to see what I could get. People at TJ Maxx called me “overqualified” for the job, and I don’t know that I actually was. To be honest, there’s a lot you can learn from people without advanced degrees. Street smarts can matter more than book smarts, so I learned.
My entire work history can be summed up in a few points:
- Neuro lab assistant
- H Mart cashier
