I’m not gonna sell you something.
Loving Medium because it’s one of the few places you can go without ads
The apps I’m using the most nowadays are littered with ads.
Maybe it’s a result of living in a capitalistic society.
But the way things are marketed is to make you dissatisfied with what you already have and crave more.
More isn’t always better, though. And craving can lead to disastrous consequences.
I’m so tired of seeing “Sponsored ad” and influencers who hawk items that they might not actually endorse.
(Now, the targeted ads can be funny sometimes when they’re completely wrong. Like there was this one fashion brand that was marketed towards shorter girls, and I’m 5' 8". Not quite that short.)
Thankfully here, all that’s on the screen between you and the writer are some words and images. There’s nothing being sold. No transactions besides engagement. And the community of writers here generally supports each other. My favorite part of Medium is meeting people who either illuminate the world in a way that I’d never considered before or people who post very relatable content.
I’m not trying to make it big on here anymore. I’m just trying to be in a place where there’s not the constant buzz for things I don’t ultimately need.
